Parson's Porch & Company

Turning Words into Books & Books into Bread since 2004

Parson's Porch & Book Publishing is a book publishing company with a double focus.  We focus on the needs of creative writers who need a professional publisher to turn their words into books, & we also focus on the needs of others by turning their books into bread by sharing our profits with those who are homeless and displaced by meeting their basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and safety.

In the coming pages are a short collection of sermons that attempt to answer questions that were posed by my congregations.  I have found that when I begin serving a new church, that to ask for questions of any type that I can then build sermons from, is helpful not only to the congregation, but helpful to me to get to know them.  What they know and don’t know, their perspectives on culture, politics and society, and most of all, how they theologically see the world.  Without some understanding of who and what they are before arriving to the congregation, I have come to rely on them and their questions to discover how I can best serve.

My prayer is that these sermons be helpful on some level that will promote not only understanding about some questions that so many of us find confusing, but helpful in building a healthy and productive relationship with our God.

Christopher Doyle studied in Jerusalem as both an undergraduate and a graduate. He met his wife, Hala, in the town of Bethlehem, and both their sons were born there. While living in Bethlehem, Rev. Doyle taught in the Catholic school system and then began working at the Bethlehem Bible College, which led him to working in refugee ministry and working with the Presbyterian Church, USA. This work led him to a more formal call to ministry, and the family moved to Dubuque, Iowa, in 2005 for him to attend seminary. He now serves the shared pastorate of First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley and Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church in Northern New Jersey.
