Parson's Porch & Company

Turning Words into Books & Books into Bread since 2004

Parson's Porch & Book Publishing is a book publishing company with a double focus.  We focus on the needs of creative writers who need a professional publisher to turn their words into books, & we also focus on the needs of others by turning their books into bread by sharing our profits with those who are homeless and displaced by meeting their basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and safety.

School Books Press

School Books Press (SBP) seeks to assist teachers of writing and to encourage student writers by publishing classroom writing projects at no cost to the school and no additional work for the teacher.  Each book will be widely distributed through Ingram Books, Amazon, and all e-book formats.

A release form from a parent/guardian of a participating student must be signed before a student’s work is included in the published book.

Here are the simple steps for a class to participate:

    Collect release forms for each student participating in the project.
    Teachers will select the best essay of each student in a participating class and give it to their SBP representative.
    SBP will publish a perfect bound book.
    Each participating student will receive a free copy of their class’s book.
    Parents can purchase additional books at a retail price $9.95.
    Each class will receive a royalty of 15% from the sale of the books which will be made available to fund students’ needs at the discretion of the teacher.
    Additional profits will be accessible through micro-grants from the Literacy Projects of Parson’s Porch & Company, a 501 c 3 non-profit which promotes justice and literacy, especially for people who are disenfranchised from society because of poverty.

School Books Press commits to:

    underwrite reading and writing projects in public schools.
    challenge each public school student to excel in writing by offering publishing opportunities at no cost to the student or school.
    challenge each public school student to excel in reading by giving them copies of popular children classics.
    support the classroom teacher with resources and funding to help children with needs related to literacy.
    supplement the classroom through micro grants for other school-room needs or supplies.

We promise that participating in a project will:

 not require additional work by the teacher.
  not use the resources or staff of the school.
  not cost the school any money.
